The establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea and the prevalence of Korean Wave(Hallyu)have greatly boosted Korean education in China –with Korean majors already set up by 276 universities. However, since the deployment of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) in South Korea in 2016, cultural conflicts between Chinese and Korean Internet users have intensified, and political and economic relations of two countries have deteriorated. A consequent high aversion to South Korea in China has a dire impact on its Korean education. In addition, the era of artificial intelligence dampen the enthusiasm of foreign language learning which has also affected students’ choice of Korean major. Besides, there are other reasons that affect the current situation of Korean education. Surveying the freshmen of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in 2022, this paper compares the questionnaire result with the previous one observing the students of Peking University, University of International Business and Economics and Qingdao University in 2008. Through the comparison, this paper aims to observe the current situation of Korean education in the Pearl River Delta of China, find out the problems existing and provide measures to improve Korean education.
