영문초록 : This thesis is a study on the customary expressions of worksongs. The customary expression is the expressions that the transmitting community of legend poems and songs enjoyed and handed down through a long time, and they are peculiar exprssions of transmitting community, including delicate and implicative emotion of its region or its time. In this thesis, how such customary expressions were produced by what kind of principle, what about the concrete aspect and what were the function were studied, setting the worksongs in Korean traditional folksongs as the subject. In the worksongs, the method similar to the strategy or adjustment being used by adults were applied in order to help children to learn language. This is the device to overcome the limitation of worksongs which are accompanied to labor and are peformed as a groub. It may be said that the cut expressions to easily understand or memory those produced expressions by such strategy or adjustment are just the customary expressions. In the worksongs, there are the customary expressions by special meaning or metaphor, and by structure. For the expressions utilizing number or surrounding things, the simple vocabularies are taken place of lengthy contents, and are effective expressions minimizing the burden of memory. And the expressions of borrowing idoms of line unit or utilizing structural frame are the effective expressions to easily understand and memory, too. Besides, there are refrains as the representative idoms of worksongs. Such customary expressions execute various practical functions at the working site, and also they carry out important functions as the principle of transmission. The customary expressions of worksongs are the expressions produced in order to overcome various restrictions at the working site, and for smooth performance and transmission. The customary exprssions are the indispensable device as various practical functions and to maintain the worksongs, and are the tools which have transmitted till now the beautiful expressions containing emotion and poetic sentiment of our race as they are, and rightful evaluation for their role is required. / 한글초록 : 본 논문은 노동요의 관용적 표현에 대한 연구이다. 관용적 표현은 구비시가의 전승공동체가 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 향유 전승시켜 온 표현들로서 그 지역이나 그 시대의 미묘하고 함축적인 정서를 담은 전승공동체 특유의 표현들이다. 본고는 이러한 관용적 표현이 어떠한 원리에 의하여 생산되고 그 구체적인 양상은 어떠하며 그리고 그 기능은 무엇인가를 노동요를 대상으로 고찰하였다. Ⅱ장에서는 아기들의 언어습득과정에서 사용되는 책략이나 조정을 통하여 노동요의 관용적 표현의 생산원리를 천착하였다. 이해능력에 한계가 있는 아기들의 언어습득을 돕기 위해 어른들은 주의환기, 생략과 반복, 대화방식, 오류의 용인 등의 책략을 사용한다. 노동현장의 여러 가지 제약을 극복하기 위해 노동요에서도 이와 유사한 장치가 사용되었다. 이러한 책략이나 조정에 의해 생산된 표현 즉 이해나 기억을 용이하게 하도록 재단된 표현이 곧 관용적 표현이라 할 수 있다. Ⅲ장에서는 관용적 표현의 구체적인 양상을 살펴보았다. 노동요에는 특정한 의미 및 비유에 의한 관용적 표현과 구조에 의한 관용적 표현이 있다. 수나 주변사물을 이용한 표현은 장황한 의미내용을 간결한 어휘로 대신하게 하며, 행단 위의 관용구나 반복, 대화체 같은 구조에 의한 관용적 표현과 더불어 수용자의 기억의 부담을 최소화시키는 효율적인 표현들이다. 이와 함께 민요의 대표적 관용구라 할 후렴의 관용구적 의미를 살펴보았다. Ⅳ장에서는 이러한 관용적 표현들이 연행현장에서 그리고 전승원리로서 각각 어떻게 기능하고 있는가를 실제 작품분석을 통하여 논의하였다. 연행현장에서는 주의를 환기시키고 의사소통의 수단으로 쓰이는 한편 노동의 놀이화나 공동체의 일체감 형성에 기여한다. 아울러 단순하고 간결한 어휘나 구조는 수용자의 이해를 돕고 기억의 부담을 줄임으로써 전파나 전승을 용이하게 한다. 노동은 민요연구에서 우선적으로 고려되어야 할 중요한 요소이며 그 출발점이 되어야 한다고 본다. 그것은 우리 민요 중 대부분의 노래가 노동요로부터 비롯되었고 노동요 외의 많은 노래도 노동적 요소를 전혀 배제할 수 없기 때문이다. 다른 구비시가에서보다 노동요에서 관용적 표현에 대한 의존도가 높은 것은 바로 이 '노동'과 '집단적 연행'이라는 장르적 특성과 관계가 깊다. 노동요의 관용적 표현은 노동현장의 여러 가지 제약을 극복하고, 원활한 구연과 전승을 위하여 생산된 표현들이다. 노동현장에서의 실제적인 여러 기능과 함께 노동요의 존속을 위한 필수적인 장치로서, 우리 민족의 정서와 詩心이 담긴 아름다운 표현들을 지금에까지 그대로 전해주는 도구로서 그 역할에 대한 정당한 평가가 요구된다.
