영문초록 : The purpose of this study is to examine the semantic properties through the analysis of middle korean opposition words which have the opposite relations in meaning to each other. The result of this study can be summarized as follows: 1) The Structure of opposition words with respect to the number of opposition items, midpoint and relativity will be as follows. □ [+pairs]-Binary □[-midpoint] [-relativity] - Bisectional opposition opposition □ [+midpoint] [-relativity] - Polar opposition □[-midpoint] [+relativity] - Relational opposition □[-pairs]-Multiple opposition(원문참조) 2) Bisectional opposition is divided into two mutually exclusive compartments and there is no neutral region. This opposition is subdivided into ① male and female relation: 'ad∧l /st∧l' ② being relation: 'salda/cˇukda' ③ degree relation: 'cˇot^(h)a/t□r□pda'. 3) Polar opposition is composed of gradable adjectives and there is a neutral area. This opposition is subdivided into ① measure - space relation: 'kilda/ti□rl¨da', 'kulgda/hi□k□lda' ②measure - quantity relation: 'manh□da/cˇi□k□da' ③ evaluation relation: 'tiot^(h)a/nat□b□da' ④ sensibility relation: 't□lda/psl¨da'. 4) Relational opposition means the relationship between two opposite items which are both symmetrical and interrelated to each other. This opposition is subdivided into ① direction relation: 'dongniak□/si□t□ni□k□' ② reverse relation: 'cˇuda/pat□da'③ antipode relation: 'cˇ^(h)□□z□m/k'1¨1' ④ reverse - movement relation: 'or□da/n□rida' ⑤ relativity relation: 'ps□l/pori'. 5) In the multiple opposition there exist several sub-concepts under one concept. This opposition is subdivided into ① linear relation : color terms ② complex relation : kinship terms. 6) The aspects of the composition of opposition words are as follows. ① A Predcessor is prior to descendant. ② In general male is followed by female. ③ Preceding time is followed by later time. ④ A direction easy to perceive appears in place A. ⑤ A word which denotes higher degree, value appears in place A. ⑥ A positive term is followed by a negative one.
