Gilles Deleuze used the term 'ritornello' to describe the formation, existence, and relationships of living beings. This study aimed to interpret the nature of toddler play by analyzing the intra-action between toddlers and materials in outdoor play from Deleuze's perspective. Data were collected from the outdoor play scenes of 2-year-old toddlers (n=10) at a daycare center C located in D city. The researcher transcribed the images recorded through participatory observation from May to August 2023 and repeatedly analyzed them to draw a conclusion. In the repetitive intra-action of toddlers’ outdoor play, the components of ritornello's 'infra-agencement,' 'intra-agencement,' and 'inter-agencement,' including differences, were confirmed. In the 'infra-agencement,' the toddlers perceived the existence of chaos with their entire body and created a play out of the rhythm and environment. In the 'intra-agencement,' each toddler constructed a unique motifs territoriaux and contre-points territoriaux, developing a deeper and more sophisticated territory of playing. In 'inter-agencement,' de-territorialization was achieved by transitioning to imagination and adventure and forming a new agencement. The results confirmed that ritornello, which achieves territorialization and de-territorialization through the creation of differences, occurs in toddler play. The findings also revealed that toddler play is a process involving creativity and learning.
