Che Dewang began to study western painting under Ishikawa Kin’ichiro at the Ta-tao-cheng Institute when he was still in secondary school. Later, from 1929 to 1940, he studied in Japan at the Kawabata Painting School, the Hongo Western Painting Research Centre and the studio of Yoshimura Yoshimatsu.
