To identify trends in curriculum research,. this study analyzed 656 curriculum-related doctoral dissertations published from 2000 to 2023. Subjects studied included “multiple school levels,” “elementary school,” “university,” “non-school,” “high school,” “early childhood education,” “other,” and “middle school.” Early childhood education emphasized teacher leadership and curriculum development's progression from understanding to application. Research on “elementary, middle, and high school” shifted with national curriculum and with IB(international baccalaureate) research emerging in the mid-2010s. “University” curriculum shifted with competency-based research starting in the 2020s. “Multiple school levels” encompassed curriculum theory and cross-level linkage. “Other school levels” shifted toward special education, while “non-school” research emphasized vocational education, particularly post-NCS. Topics ranked as “development and design,” “teachers,” “operation and implementation,” “curriculum and textbooks,” “assessment,‘ and ’theory.” “Development and design” focused on standards-based or narrative-driven curriculum development. “Teachers” emphasized curriculum literacy and professional aspects. “Operation and implementation” highlighted curriculum reconstruction and increased IB research. “Curriculum and textbooks” included comparative studies, initially with Japan and later with China. “Assessment” transitioned from indicator development to student-centric effectiveness. “Theory” saw the emergence of various scholars post-2010, with deepening content on the same scholars.
