This study aims to devise an educational plan that peruses the ‘good life’ of each of us by focusing on the role of emotion in novel education and establishing the ethics of sadness. Modern society, which pursues the logic of neoliberalism, dismisses the sadness as an uncomfortable feeling only by the fact that it exists in my surrounding area rather than adopting an ethical attitude of willingly sympathizing with the sadness of others. In this flow, looking at the suffering of others with the ethics of sadness becomes an educational practice task, which can be sought through reading novels. Reading the experience of loss embodied in the novel, the reader can find a way to lead a good life by sharing sadness without being numb to the pain of others. Here, focusing on < Ip-dong(the onset of winter) > and < Michaela >, I examine the imbalance and impermanency, which are the limitations of sadness, and look at the character that deviates from these limitations and moves toward social practice. The novel education presented in this study will provide a foundation for learners to cultivate ethical attitudes toward the sadness of others.
