[Purpose] This study examines the information transfer effect by investigating whether the auditors of the focal firms are replaced in the event of stock price crashes in other firms in the same industry. [Methodology] This study constructs a firm-pair-year sample using companies listed on the KSE from 2006 to 2018, and logistic regression was performed using a fixedeffects model to examine the relationship between the auditor change in focal firms and the stock price crashes of other firms. [Findings] As a result, the manager of the focal firms changed the auditor to prevent the risk of crashes in advance and to send a signal to prove accounting transparency. Moreover, when information asymmetry is high, auditors are replaced more frequently due to stock price crashes. [Policy Implications] This study provides an incentive for firms with high agency costs to appoint high-quality auditors by showing the information transfer effect through stock price crashes. Moreover, this study can be used as a supplementary tool for decisionmaking related to the Free Audit Engagement System.
