The purpose of this study is to investigate the understanding of Korean idioms by 91 Chinese Korean Learners (CKL). According to the literature review, the acquisition of idioms was mostly done through comparative analysis, but from a comparative cultural point of view, it is rare to categorize them. So, in our paper, we want to verify whether there are differences in the understanding of idioms depending on idiom type and transparency. In addition, whether their proficiency and residential experiences can be influential factors on their understanding of idioms were noted. The data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and T-test. The result showed significant differences in the understanding of idioms by idiom type and transparency as well as interaction effects between the two variables. Although there were differences in the understanding of idioms according to proficiency, it was confirmed that the residential experience affected the understanding of only type B2.
