In recent years, with the adjustment of China's economic structure and the uncertain international economic situation, the phenomenon of university graduates facing difficulties in finding employment has been growing increasingly severe. According to the latest survey data, the youth unemployment rate in China has reached a staggering 21 percent, placing significant pressure on university students. Contemporary university students are finding it increasingly challenging to cope with issues related to their academic pursuits, employment prospects, and mental well-being. These problems are becoming more acute over time. Addressing the aforementioned issues and enhancing the overall quality of university students is not only a matter for higher education institutions to ponder but also a critical societal concern that various sectors must confront. In Chinese education law, university students are defined as individuals enrolled in full-time degree programs at regular institutions of higher education who hold student status. University students represent a distinct social group and are individuals who are currently undergoing higher education, possessing advanced knowledge and cutting-edge ideas. They are the driving force behind pioneering developments and innovations, they are the primary group driving continuous social progress.Fugate et al. (2004) pointed out that employability is a series of proactive adaptive abilities individuals possess concerning work and careers, constituting a psychosocial construct embedded within their personal characteristics. Moreover, employability serves as the foundation of comprehensive qualities for university students and is influenced by various factors. These factors encompass external elements such as institutions of higher education and family in the social environment affecting university students' employability, as well as internal psychological factors like optimism and self-efficacy that impact university students' employability. The improvement of university students' comprehensive qualities is closely tied to their own learning engagement and their satisfaction with their chosen field of study. Research conducted by scholar Zhang Rui (2017) indicates that the more actively and extensively students engage in their studies, the more beneficial it is for enhancing their overall qualities, ultimately fundamentally enhancing their employability. Furthermore, research by scholar Lee Jeongim (2016) suggests that employability of university students can be predicted through factors such as social support and satisfaction within their chosen major.Comprehensive preliminary research suggests that there are interrelationships among university students' psychological capital, social support, learning engagement, major satisfaction, and employability. Although previous studies have explored these variables, a systematic investigation is yet to be established. Additionally, no scholar has employed structural equation modeling to analyze the causal relationships between these variables. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate how psychological capital and social support enhance the employability of university students through learning engagement and major satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among psychological capital, social support, learning engagement, major satisfaction, and employability, using Chinese university students as the research subjects. The primary research objectives are as follows.Firstly, to construct a research model that encompasses variables such as psychological capital, social support, learning engagement, major satisfaction, and employability. Conducting a comprehensive analysis of the mechanisms underlying the interactions between the aforementioned variables using relevant literature and theory. Secondly, to analyze the mediating roles of learning engagement and major satisfaction in the relationship between psychological capital, social support, and employability. This aims to expand our understanding of how psychological capital and social support influence the employability of university students, with the objective of identifying strategies and methods for enhancing their employability. Thirdly, to conduct an in-depth investigation into the impact of psychological capital and social support on the employability of university students, seeking effective pathways for enhancing their employability. Simultaneously, this research aims to provide valuable recommendations for government education policy and guidelines. To achieve the objectives of this study, the following research questions have been formulated based on the characteristics of the study subjects and the research content.First, what is the impact of psychological capital on university students' learning engagement, major satisfaction, and employability?Second, what is the impact of social support on university students' learning engagement, major satisfaction, and employability?Third, what are the effects of university students' learning engagement and major satisfaction on employability?Fourth, does psychological capital indirectly influence the employability of university students through learning engagement and major satisfaction?Fifth, does social support indirectly influence the employability of university students through learning engagement and major satisfaction?Sixth, in the context of a challenging job market, how can we alleviate the current employment issues by continuously enhancing the employability of university students? This study distributed a total of 650 questionnaires. Out of these, 581 questionnaires were deemed valid, resulting in an 89% response rate. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 26 and AMOS 24. Through descriptive statistical analysis, the study examined the participants' basic characteristics. Furthermore, reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and discriminant validity analysis were conducted. Subsequently, structural equation modeling, path analysis, and mediation effect testing were employed to elucidate the relationships between the variables. The research findings of this study are as follows.First, psychological capital has a significant positive impact on university students' employability, and social support also has a significant positive impact on university students' employability.Second, university students' psychological capital has a significant positive impact on their learning engagement, and learning engagement also has a significant positive impact on university students' employability.Third, university students' psychological capital has a significant positive impact on their major satisfaction, and major satisfaction also has a significant positive impact on university students' employability.Fourth, social support for university students has a significant positive impact on their learning engagement, and learning engagement also has a significant positive impact on university students' employability.Fifth, social support for university students has a significant positive impact on their major satisfaction, and major satisfaction also has a significant positive impact on university students' employability.Sixth, the study found that learning engagement and major satisfaction play a partial mediating role in the process through which psychological capital and social support influence university students' employability.Based on the research findings, the following policy, practical, and academic recommendations have been proposed. In terms of policy recommendations, first, there are suggestions for government authorities. Government bodies should enhance employment education policies, emphasizing their practical and guiding aspects. Furthermore, government departments should assign education experts to universities to explain the national employment education guidelines and policies, ensuring the implementation and refinement of employment policies. Second, there are recommendations for corporate employers. Companies should establish a presence in universities to communicate current talent shortages and their underlying reasons, and collaboratively discuss talent development strategies with universities. Moreover, companies should endeavor to provide students with extracurricular opportunities in addition to their theoretical coursework. Additionally, they should explore innovative models of collaboration between academia and industry to further deepen cooperation between universities and enterprises. In terms of practical recommendations, first, universities should enhance university students' comprehensive qualities by updating their educational philosophies, emphasizing institutional characteristics, fostering individual growth and development, and optimizing talent development models, among other measures and initiatives. Second, university students should continuously identify challenges and, in the process of seeking solutions, actively cultivate their ability to creatively solve problems. They should make efforts to stimulate and nurture their innovation and entrepreneurial mindset, thereby enhancing their overall skill set and realizing their career aspirations. In terms of academic recommendations, firstly, this study relied solely on cross-sectional data, which means it cannot depict whether there are close relationships between variables at different time points. Additionally, it cannot confirm whether these relationships evolve over time, an issue that warrants further investigation. Secondly, it is hoped that interdisciplinary experts and scholars can collaborate in-depth in this field in the future, aiding in the enhancement of employability levels for the university student population. This collaboration not only benefits students but also provides substantial theoretical support for the high-quality development of the country, society, and the economy. Lastly, this paper employed statistical principles to analyze the factors influencing university students' employability. The software used for data analysis was SPSS 26and AMOS 24. In the future, other data analysis tools and methods, such as EViews, MATLAB, R-Studio, Python, and others, can be utilized to further deepen the content of this study.
