Purpose This study aims to analyze the effects of reformer footworkexercise on lower extremity muscle activity and dynamic balance ability inadults with chronic ankle instability.Method Twenty participants with a CAIT (Cumberland Ankle InstabilityInstrument) score of 24 or less were randomly divided into an experimentalreformer footwork exercise group(n=10) and a control foot intrinsic muscleexercise group (n=10). After exercising for 6 weeks, dynamic balance wasmeasured using Y-balance. Lower extremity muscle activity (vastus medialis, tibialis anterior, peroneus longus, gastrocnemius, and abductor pollicis) wasmeasured using a surface electromyography device.Result In the reformer exercise group, muscle activity of the vastus medialis, tibialis anterior, peroneus longus, and gastrocnemius muscles significantlyincreased. In the foot intrinsic muscle exercise group, the tibialis anterior andgastrocnemius muscle activity significantly increased. As a result of measuringdynamic balance, both groups showed significant increases in three directionsand combined reach distances. However, the mean difference between thetwo groups was not statistically significant. Conclusion Reformer footwork exercise effectively increased lower bodymuscle activity and improved dynamic balance in adults with chronic ankleinstability. Therefore, Reformer footwork exercises can be used in adults withchronic ankle instability
