The study is conducted to analyze and better understand the composer's compositional intentions and historical background by studying three music works: Johannes Brahms',, and . Brahms' last chamber music work, is originally composed for the clarinet, it was later re-arranged by himself for the Viola. Brahms was a great composer who combined romantic musical idioms while adhering to classical forms. In Brahms' music, it represents homomorphic progression, counterpoint progression, and expansion and contraction of the sound pattern, and it can be played by describing characteristics of the whole piece using chromatic chords, accessory chords, and non-harmonic chords centered on the main chord. To play lyrical melodies and mystical melodies more naturally and softly, composer thinks it is necessary to feel the sensitive emotions. Hofmeister's Viola Concerto in D Major is currently an important piece for violists. The first movement is a classical sonata form based on the classical melody and harmony, the second movement is composed of a circular two-part form and plays a lyrical melody. The 3rd movement is a rondo form of the classical period, and it ends with a lightness and liveliness that is different from the 1st and 2nd movements. In addition, decorative notes such as trills, turn and acciaccatura are used for typical musical styles of the Vienna school of the classical period. Piazzolla's Le Grand Tango was released after many masterpieces. This work keeps basics of tango and blends various genres and cultural elements using technique of classical music. In addition, Piazzolla has a grip on public with his meticulous dynamics and various techniques such as rhythm, accent, and timbre, which are characteristic of tango music. Piazzolla bases the ostinato with cyclical techniques, pedal points, he uses imitation techniques. As such, it is a work where can feel how much Piazzolla studied and loved tango due to the various techniques of cadenza and the lyrical yet colorful melody. The performer who plays these pieces would improve there performance by precise recognizing and researching what the composer's requirements are. Through the study of this thesis, the musical characteristics and contents of Brahms, Hoffmeister and Piazzolla were studied in depth. In Brahms' Sonata, the performers should fully recognize the rhythm and imitation technique, and the performers should try to connect the music by using parts such as hemiola and syncopation in good way. Hofmeister's Concerto has a typical structure of classical concertos, and players can feel his cleverness and sincerity. Hoffmeister's viola concerto shows that the overall understanding of the viola and his life and music are connected. In Piazzolla's Le Grand Tango, rhythm of tango music is kept intact with modern materials such as a strong sense of rhythm and dissonance. In addition, it is characterized by a tempo that shows various expressions and frequent changes, and the performer should make a well-balanced performance by making good mixed feeling of classical and jazz. The Performers who play these musics hope accurate recognizing and studying the composer's requirements to be helpful for the performance in raising the perfection.
