Despite the benefits of reducing emissions, electric vehicle drivers suffer a long charge queue or a search hopping for charging stations due to the lack of fast charging stations. On the other hand, fast charging stations constructed at high cost suffer from economic problems because of low operating rates. In this study, we propose a system to reduce the charge waiting time by finding and reserving an empty charging stall located on the route according to the battery capacity and charging station usage status. In addition, it was considered that the no-show cannot be forcibly prevented, so the related losses on the whole system and long-distance travel vehicle were quantitatively analyzed. Simulation results show that the charging reservation system reduces the waiting time by 34~87% and increases the overall charging station utilization by 9~51% compared to the charging method based on the low battery warning tell-tale. On the other hand, despite the increase in the number of charges, the total travel time from Seoul to Busan increases by only 0 to 3%. As the cancellation rate increase from 0% to 10%, the total utilization of chargers decreases by 0.64~2.91%. The electric vehicle reservation system will help to eliminate the hassle of finding the empty charging station and lower the range anxiety. In addition, reduced waiting time and increased total utilization of chargers will be economically beneficial for both drivers and system operators.
