This study was designed to examine the differences in the asset structures of rated hotel in Chinese hotel industry and to identify the influence extent of assets on sales. This research objectives were to provide useful information about incremental investments in the Chinese growing hotel market and the asset management for continuing businesses. The research problems for achieving research objectives were identified as follow. Firstly, it was to examine the differences of asset structure based on ratings from Chinese hotel industry. In other words, it was about to see if there were any discrepancies in liquid asset ratio, quick asset ratio, inventory turnover ratio, fixed asset ratio, investment asset ratio, tangible asset ratio, intangible asset ratio and asset ratio of buildings among total assets. Through that, it was to determine whether there were differences in asset ownership and asset structure based on ratings from Chinese hotel industry. Secondly, it was to search for differences in the effectiveness on asset management based on ratings from Chinese hotel industry. In other words, it was to examine the asset turnover ratio, tangible asset turnover ratio, fixed assets turnover ratio and inventory turnover ratio in sales. Thus, it was to find out whether there were any differences in the sales based on ratings. Thirdly, it was to examine the impact of asset-related factors to the sales in Chinese hotel industry. To do this, the previous researches were used to identify asset factors that affect the sales as same as which assets contribute to the sales. In order to achieve objectives of the study, the rated hotels (five-star, four-star, three-star rating) in Guangdong were selelected as subjects for the empirical analysis of this study. Therefore, variance analysis and multiple regression methods were used to identify the differences in the asset structure and turnover ratio of each rated hotel, and to determine the influence extent of assets on sales. The analysis results were summarized as follows. Firstly, according to results from analysis on differences in capital structure ratios of Chinese rated hotels, there were differences in the asset ratio of buildings, inventory turnover ratio, liquid asset ratio, investment asset ratio. The ratios of liquid assets a tangible assets were high in 5-star hotels. And the ratios of quick assets, fixed assets, investment assets and intangible assets were high in 3-star hotels. It also showed that 5-star hotels were good in terms of liquidity and risk. Secondly, as the result from analyzing the differences in turnover ratio of Chinese rated hotels, only the inventory turnover ratio showed differences. The turnover ratio of total assets was relatively high in the 3-star hotels (29.261) compared to the 5-star hotels (27.904) and the 4-star hotels (27.787). Thirdly, the influences of assets on business performance were analyzed based on Chinese rated hotels. In the case of group 1 (5-star hotels), it showed that quick assets had positive (+) impacts on business performance, but tangible assets, intangible assets, inventory assets and buildings did not have any impacts. In the case of group 2 (4-star hotels), while the intangible assets, inventory assets and buildings had negative (-) impacts on business performance, the tangible assets showed positive (+) impacts. In the case of group 3 (3-star hotels), the tangible assets and inventory assets had positive (+) impacts on business performance, whereas intangible assets had negative (-) impacts. The limitations of this study were the acquisition of funds in target companies. Although the public announcements were obligatory for domestic corporations to provide the financial reports to external users, there were limitations on available data from Chinese domestic hotels. It was difficult to clearly judge the impact of the cost and related variables on the expenses of Chinese rated hotels through the available data. In addition, only 15 three-star hotels in Guangdong province in China were analyzed for cost characteristics, so the research results show limitations in discussing the cost characteristics of Guangdong province and all over China. In addtion, the cost characteristics were derived as the results by analyzing 15 hotels out of 5-star, 4-star, 3star hotels in Guangdong province, China. Therefore, as the result of the study, there were limitations in discussingthe cost characteristics of hotels in Guangdong province as same as in the entire of China. In the future, although the differences of asset structures based on hotel characteristics and the impacts on utilization ratios and business performances have been analyzed, the capital and cost as well as the asset structure by profitability should be carried out. Thereby, it would be useful to identify the financial characteristics of hotel companies.
