Nanjing massacre is an indelible pain in Chinese collective menory, which is alsoa bright mark in the blood of Chinese nation'heart branded by the booms of the Second World War. In order to preserve this memory from generation to generation, people tried various of ways to recall, reproduce and rethink. Films, howerve, are definitely one of the most people. So far there have been more than fourteen feature or documentary films on the theme of NanJing Massacre. The films show arare historical tragedy on earth to people in fictional and documentary style from different angles. On the basis of the films, this paper will discuss the significance of their projection and the meaning of their dissemination according to the aesthetics and information spread of NanJing Massacre subject films to analyze the nature and significance in the eyes of Chinses people. This paper discusses the features of feature films and documentary films on NanJing Massacre subject films. First of all, NanJing Massacre subject films have the features as follows: In the first chapter, the author selects and analyzes the constituent elements from seven feature films which are relatively vavuable for the NanJing Massacre subjects and finds out that they sepasately describe NanJing Massacre in the aspects of rebels, victims, perpetrators and saviors. This portrays the image of the Chinese, the Japanese and the westerners. In particular, the common features of the seven films are to promote the anti-war ideas, but the specific aspects are different in terms of the theme. Some emphasize the resistance, some emphasize the great harm of war to every individual involved in, and others show the evil of war initiator. Some of the films emphasize the humanitarian salvation in war at the end of the war. Seven of the NanJing Massacre subject films promote the development of the story from different factors like the plot, the information spread and the relation of the people. Secondly, seven films vary in the content of presentation from the change of the times. The temper of times is vividly reflected by the immortal Chinese resistance spirit, the constant human nature, the realistic shooting technique and the creative idea, the reappearance of the tortuous development history and the like. What's more, the develoment of the films is also influenced by the other areas. It's not difficult for us to find out from the seven films the commercialization of Hong Kong films, the special cultural context of Taiwan films and the unique historical perspective of German films. We continue to discuss the documentary filmson NanJing Massacre. Research shows that most valuable part of the films is the interviews made by the film producer with the people experienced the massacre, descendants of them and experts and scholars specialized in NanJing Massacre The author compares and lists the people interviewed and the significance among them them in four films. In the aspect of material organization, the films, In the Name of the Emperor and Rape of Nanjing, seem like two pieces of argumentative paper, which have clear point of view and sufficient argument; However, the films, Nanking and Iris Chang: The Rape of Nanking, seem like two pieces of narrative papers, the former of which regards Nanjing Massacre as the narrative object and the latter one emerges from the aspect of Iris Chang. The American film scholar, Bill Nichols, divides films into six categories according to different expression patterns. And four Nanjing Massacre subject films belong to there of the categories as follows: expository, participatory and performative. The change of the expression pattern is exactly the difference in the idea of creating films. Expository films establish clear logic based on narration but ignore the importance of the frames, only to inculcate views to the audiences directly. Particpatory films enable audiences to find out the point of views themselves by interviewing with the characters in the films and exchanding ideas. Performative films show with strong emotion and subjective expression as one of their essential features, aiming at moving the audiences and turning them into alliance subjectively or building close relation with them to see the world in the aspect of the film. After having a better understanding of the seven feature films and four documentray films on the Nanjing Massacre subject films, what makes difference in these two forms of films? No matter what kind of film it is, there should be some truth in historical film with a specific era as the background. Historical films require not only a correct expression of history, but also a correct understanding of history. An artist in the creation of historical themes of literary works must master the historical facts in advance and form a correct understanding of it.Then by subjective activity, the artist tries to reveal the historical facts in the hypothetical situation bu useing artist means. That is to say, the artist turns the true history inti the truth of art. The creation of historical story films is consistent with this artist rule. However, the documentary is an exception, because of its own stipulation--the bottom line of "non-ficton" and "non-plot" makes the historical theme documentary film aim at seeking historical truth. Different demands between the truth of art and truth of history truth bring the audience a different viewing experience, the former one enables the audience the perception of subjective reality while the latter one brings the audience a true sense of view to the audience.
