Along with the swift development of economy, the 21st century has become a new cultural century. The modern society has turned from a politics-centered and economy-centered era to a culture-oriented era. Basic behavior elements like clothing, food, shelter and transportation as well as music and arts are included in the broad range of culture. Chinese used to summarize their daily life as clothing, food, shelter and transportation of which the clothing comes first. Thus it is clear that clothing is one of most important in life. Almost since the day when fashion appeared, people have already integrated their social statuses, living customs, aesthetic tastes and various cultural concepts into it. Especially with the improvement of cognition, educational level and living level, the younger generation of China changes and improves their requirements for fashion significantly. The younger generation of China refers to those who are the only children born after 1980 in their family. They are called ‘the Generation Born in 1980s'. This generation is a group who grow up along with the great changes caused by 30 years' reform and opening up in China. The study on features of ‘the Generation Born in 1980s’ on culture in the paper and gets the following features. ‘Perceptual open individualism', ‘Luxury consumerism', ‘cyber informationalism', ‘Patriotic Chinese nationalism'. In this paper, a study has done on the fashion features of ‘the Generation Born in 1980s’ through the material analysis of fashion magazines, street photos and Internet news reports and the following features are obtained. Firstly, easy casual style. ‘sports casual style', ‘sexy sporty style', ‘luxury casual style' are the representatives. Secondly, sexy & girlish style. ‘girlish style', ‘sexy punk style' are the representatives. Thirdly, romantic bohemian style It mainly includes V-shaped or U-shaped neck and drop-shoulder blouses and lower garments which are mainly stacked and plicate A-shaped longuettes. Fourthly, mix & match layered style. They assort cloth materials, colors, patterns and styles etc. in complete accordance with their own favorite inclinations freely. Fifthly, Chinese style. Both Tang suit and cheongsam are the representatives of Chinese style. New style such as Chinese-style standing collar, Chinese frog and patterns etc. have become fashionable elements. Among them, the beauty and grace of cheongsam have created a Chinese style popular with international fashion circle. A conclusion can be obtained from the analysis on cultural characteristics and fashion styles of ‘the Generation Born in 1980s’ of China that the generation of young men & women ‘Born in 1980s’ achieve a qualitative leap in the living standard and form self-centered, emotional & impulsive, over-consuming and patriotic personal features under the influence of China’s economic development. These features are also embodied correspondingly in their fashion styles. I hope that these analysis results can offer help for the future study on culture and fashion of ‘the Generation Born in 1980s’ of China.
