This study reveals the availability of Korean language education using folk tales and plans of language education on the basis of"Woodcutter and Nymph". If students want to speak Koran fluently, they need to receive cultural education as well as language education. Literary works constitutes a medium that combines language and culture, thus students can learn both Korean language and culture by receiving Korean literature education. Especially, folk tales have contained Korean people's life styles, ideas and values as they have been invented and enjoyed by the majority of acquire knowledge of Korean culture. In chapter 1, the aim and necessity of this research, previous research related to this topic and research methods were described. In chapter 2, investigated the characteristics of legend in folk tales and the meaning of Korean language education using legend. The concept, characteristics and structure of folk tales were investigated and then folk tales suitable for korean language education were selected with the reference of selection standards of previous researchers. In chapter 3, the educational value and status of the meanings and implications of the subject types of the tale are looked into. And the types can be divided into four categories "the nymph ascension", "the woodcutter ascension", "marriage difficulty overcoming" and "returning to the earth". "Woodcutter and Nymph" folk tale clearly display the sentiments and values of Koreans due to their genre characteristics. The examination of traditional ethics, ways of thinking and the sense of family community can help the language learners to communicate in Korean. In chapter 4, a class plan that enables the teaching of language with the utilization of folk tales was sought. The reason for selecting the type of "returning to the earth" as the textbook and the object of the class were explained. then, a teaching and learning plan divided into introduction activity and class activity was presented with specific examples. Lastly, chapter5, a brief summary was provided.
