Movie poster is a kind of media carrier integrating image, color, text and other modes, which has the characteristics of attracting readers' attention to publicize the movie content. In essence, the process of audience's reading and understanding of the non-textual information symbols of the movie poster is the process of visual poster's publicity and decoding of the movie content information. This paper takes the movie poster of Changjin Lake as the research object, based on the visual grammar theory proposed by Kress and Van Leeuwen, analyzes the movie poster from three dimensions of representation, interaction and composition, and reveals the path of Chinese theme movie posters to construct Chinese mainstream values and enhance national identity. Through the analysis of the research model of visual grammar, it is concluded that the reappearance meaning presents the theme of film events, the interactive meaning emphasizes the emotional relationship between actors and audiences, and the composition meaning renders the film atmosphere to highlight the text information. Based on the framework of visual grammar, this paper reveals the hidden path of meaning construction of theme movie posters and provides a new cognitive motivation for the design and production of movie posters of this genre.
