This paper addresses the problem of compatibility between the power grid and equipment. To dampen the impact of voltage sag on consumers from the planning level, an index that serves to evaluate the compatibility between the grid and equipment based on the gravity model is proposed. The compatibility is indicated by the numerical solution of the "gravity" between the grid and equipment, which is directly proportional to their "masses" and inversely proportional to the square of the "distance" between them. The "mass" of the grid and equipment is defined as the voltage sag level and equipment immunity respectively. The "distance" is the quadratic sum between the median lines from the grid side and the immunity curves from the equipment side. The method is validated by voltage sag monitoring data of a grid and equipment immunity data. The results show the applicability of the method to quantify the matching degree between the grid and equipment.
