The objective of this paper is to study the performance of block truncation coding and other color quantization algorithms under noisy channels. From the high efficiency variable bit rate BTC coders, some error-correcting bits of shortened BCH codes are added to make a constant bit rate coder. With the modified block, not only some channel distortion can be recovered but error propagating in the data stream is also decreased. The proposed TMM-BTC with shortened BCH codes yield better PSNR than other color quantization coders in a wide range of channel BER.
