background: the aim of the study was to compare the volume of the tooth in-vitro between four cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanners and one multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT) system. Materials and methods: 42 teeth in-vitro was scanned with four CBCT systems (Accuitomo 3D, Vatech Imlagraphy, NewTom 3G, CRANE 3Dx) and one MSCT scanner (Philips Brilliances 16). 3D models were created from the six systems. The reference (gold standard) model was obtained with a high resolution laser scanner. The scanning results from the six systems were compared with the gold standard in volume. Results: The laser-scan sample volume was statistically significantly distinct from the MSCT-scan volume (P
