The age of artificial intelligence (AI) is upon us. Its impact can be ambiguous until undressed from Hollywood assumptions. Public perception is that people's jobs are at stake. AI is a major disrupter in every industry, as it has the ability to augment large volume repetitive tasks. Understanding what AI is and the solutions it provides, is as critical today as was understanding the benefits of the cotton gin, the horseless carriage, and AC current. Currently in manufacturing, AI is being utilized at many stages, from the initial design to the marketing and to accomplish lean and six-sigma methodology goals. The objective of this paper is to give an applicable understanding of artificial intelligence, acknowledge the creative places it is applied, and demonstrate how it allows more time for creative problem solving, which is where humans thrive.
