Due to limited space in the handset, antenna correlations are inevitable. The power imbalances between different antenna branches can be created by e.g., holding the handset. All of these cause a degradation of the throughput of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. In this paper, we study the antenna effects on MIMO throughput. The majorization theory is introduced to compare the correlation performances of different MIMO antennas. The overall antenna effect on MIMO throughput is characterized by the multiplexing efficiency.
