Spectrograph with spherically bent mica crystals have provided time-integrated spectra and monochromatic self-emission images of aluminum wire array z-pinch implosions on the Qiangguang-I pulsed power generator. Although 1–3 millimeter diameter of plasma column greatly broadened the line width on the detector, spectral resolution of about 1000–3000 could be realized with this focusing spectrograph, which was much better than that of spectrographs with flat or convex curved crystals. The detector was arranged so that the spectra were axially resolved. Self-emission images of wire array z-pinch plasmas showed presence of bright spots in the plasma column.
