A brief description of the synthetic reference holographic technique for the prediction of antenna radiation patterns from intensity only near-field measurements has been discussed, together with challenges surrounding its use for X-polar measurements. In comparison to results obtained using standard planar near-field measurements, the initial results presented are seen to offer the same general trend, although the intensity only technique predicts significantly lower power levels. This difference has been linked to the small X-polar power levels and their ability to modulate the much larger reference signal and the increased significance of drift on the reference signal in comparison to when the received signal power is larger.
