Today, there is an increasing concern about protection of ecological systems. Petrobased synthetic polymers are not biodegradable and cause environmental pollution. These polymers that are stuck in nature, affect wildlife adversely. Also, in future petrochemical materials will drain away and demand for eco-friendly plastics which can substitute synthetic plastics, will increase. But up to now, there is no significant step in industry about biodegradable polymers. These important substitution between biopolymers and traditional plastics depends on the production costs and the performance of new biopolymers which are not comparable synthetic polymers so far. Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), are a biopolyester family that has variety of structures and are completely synthesized from microorganism. Polyhdroxybutyrate and its copolymer poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) are most known PHA's kind. PHB and PHV's copolymer PHBV has similar semicrystalline properties with PHB but it also depends on 3-HV content. Mechanical properties of PHBV is highly improved when compared to PHB. Sustainability and green chemistry promote to improve new materials. Biodegradable plastics and biopolymer products based on bio and natural materials and in future these products will be nominee to use instead of petro based plastics. Recently biodegradable and/or biobased composite materials are named as `green` owing to their sources. `Green` composites originate from reinforcements like plant, natural fibers, polylactic acid, starch and biodegradable polymer matrix materials and by this way their mechanical properties are improved. The most promising application of polymer composites are polymer matrices filled with nanosized reinforcing materials. Boron nitride is an ceramic type particle ,which was used to improve oxygen permeation and other properties of the PHBV. The extrusion technique was used to prepare the bionanocomposites. Oxygen permeation, mechanical analysis, XRD, FTIR, SEM, TGA, DSC were used to characterize our composites. The maximum decrease of 26.42% was found for oxygen permeability of the composites at 1 wt % BN loading. With further increasing the BN content to 2 wt %, the oxygen permeation was increased. A similar ternd was found for mechanical properties of the composites. Young modulus, tensile stress, maximum force increased up to 2 wt % BN loading, With further increasing the BN content to 3 wt%, the mechanical properties of the composites decreased. The deterioration of both permeation and mechanical properties may be due to agglomeration of BN particles within polymer matrix. 147
