An investigation of copper and iron losses distribution in internal permanent magnet synchronous motor is presented. Two rotor configuration have been analyzed – with integral permanent magnet per pole and with a segmented magnet with one ferromagnetic rib in the pole middle. Maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) and iron loss minimization (ILM) control have been applied for both constructions. The influence of the rotor configuration and the control strategy on the loss distribution is shown.
