Highlights •Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) wastewater was treated using Tribonema sp.•Magnetoelectric combinatory field (MCF) increased biomass by 9.7% (2.4 g/L).•MCF increased ammonium nitrogen and total phosphorus removal efficiency over 95%.•The chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal rate increased to 82%.•MCF significantly increased lipid and carbohydrate by 7.71% and 4.73%.
