Highlights •A solvothermal route was developed to synthesize Eosin Y (EY)-sensitized UiO-66-NH2.•A chemical bonding of Zr⟵OCO→Zr strengthened the linking between EY and UiO-66-NH2.•Content of EY on UiO-66-NH2 was increased and the transfer of charge carriers was facilitated.•H2 evolution of EY-sensitized UiO-66-NH2 at 120 °C was 8 times as that at room-temperature.
