The article recounts the author's discussion of Peter Dickinson's book "Eva" with a class of fifth and sixth grade students. The students said they found the book's premise, of a girl's brain being transplanted into the body of an ape, believable. Aspects of the process of fictional creation are discussed. Dickinson's view of what the book is really about is also provided.
