The article shows Paul Natorp's influence on Martin Heidegger's philosophy of science and technology. It examines two conflicting notions of thinking: thinking as science, and thinking beyond science. It is argued that Heidegger's so-called essence of technology described in his essay "Die Frage nach der Technik," can only be properly interpreted in light its concealed neo-Kantia subtext.
