This article details a conceptual framework for practical global citizenship education (GCE). Drawing from recent constructivist grounded theory research into GCE development in an International Baccalaureate (IB) international school, the framework includes the following categories: co-creation, overcoming individualism, mapping interconnectivity, planetary issues, allosyncracy, scalability and substantiating (COMPASS). The COMPASS framework offers a response to the practical problematisation of GCE by prioritising communication and mutual understanding, a contextualisation of hegemonic influence and, a recognition of the individual/collective tension informing global action.
