The authors discuss a systematic review of interventions to encourage careers in academic medicine. The review showed that many strategies have been implemented to make academic medicine more desirable. The authors said that students who do not undertake intercalated degrees may have reduced exposure to academic medicine. They said that it has been shown that mentoring juniors encourages research involvement.
