The article discusses project-based learning (PBL) as an instructional approach to science teaching which supports the Next Generation Science Standards. It explains that students design and solve real-world problems or discuss scientific phenomena in a PBL lesson. It introduces an additional tool, the activity summary board (ASB), a classroom organizational too that summarizes what students do and figure out in the classroom as they take on the role of scientist or engineer.
