Reasonable design and facile fabrication of cheap and effective catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) are significant for large-scale hydrogen production. Herein, a series of hierarchical core–shell Mn2P-5@Co0.5Fe0.5P/CC have been successfully prepared by a facile synthetic approach and directly served as catalytic electrodes for HER. Benefitting from the hierarchical heterostructures and synergistic effect that come from the outer Mn2P and inner Co0.5Fe0.5P nanowires, the optimized Mn2P-5@Co0.5Fe0.5P/CC electrode exhibited admirable HER activity with a quite small overpotential of 77 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and excellent durability in 1 M KOH electrolyte. Our work highlights the significance of the design and fabrication nanocomposites with hierarchical structure for HER and can be used to prepare other non-precious and high-performance HER catalysts.
