He studied at the Dana Institute of Music in Warren, Ohio, and from 1903 to 1910 at the Naples Conservatory. His three-act operetta A Millionaire’s Caprice received its première there in 1910. Returning to the USA, De Leone settled in Akron, where he established the music department at the University of Akron and founded the De Leone School of Music. He received the David Bispham Memorial Medal for his opera Alglala, which concerns a lady descended from an Indian tribe that once lived in Ohio. He also composed four sacred music dramas.
