This study began to organize the concept of results applied to the field of art and examine the horizontal relationship between the two concepts. The purpose of this study is to insert the block-simultaneous relationship of 'contingency -synesthesia' into aesthetic emergence in some way. Therefore, this paper attempted to study the concept of 'coincidence-synesthesia' and investigate and analyze an exhibition of modern art works that can observe the relationship between the two concepts. The research results and contents are as follows. First, the artist's autonomous judgment, intervention, and work process, which involves uncertainty, affect formativeness at various levels, as in the works of Jackson Pollock and Julie Mehretu, resulting in active exchange between multiple senses, expanding the range of expression, and Diversity of interpretation is secured. Second, as can be seen in John Cage's art, ‘contingency-synesthesia’ exists as an indeterminate image by expressing contingency through the continuation of pure time. The transition process between the senses experienced in this ‘existential context’ causes the aesthetic emergence of synesthesia in various ways. Third, ‘contingency-synesthesia’ creates a complex and active transfer of sensations, like the synergy provided by the fusion between the accidental montage effect and dramatic sound in Eisenstein’s film. In addition, just as Helen Marten ‘correlates’ various materials and applies them to her work, it induces autonomous judgment and multifaceted interpretation in the viewer. Based on the above research results, this study aims to recall the conceptual and practical importance of ‘contingency-synesthesia’ that intervenes in artistic creation and provide a new perspective for appreciating works of art. This is part of an attempt to understand a cross-section of modern art that is trying to break away from the existing art appreciation structure of authoritative works and passive audiences, and it is expected that art studies that attempt to converge on ‘contingency-synesthesia’ will continue to continue in the future.
