This study aims to explore the current status and needs for the introduction and utilization of artificial intelligence(AI)-based learning support systems in domestic universities. To meet the purpose, interviews were conducted with nine participants responsible for AI-based learning support systems in universities. As the results, AI-based learning support systems in higher education institutions can be categorized into types such as teaching-learning assessment systems and recommendation systems that provide tailored information based on data. The needs revealed based in terms of system introduction, data collection, and system utilization and dissemination. Based on these findings, this study proposes differentiated strategies based on the methods of system implementation (top-down, bottom-up), utilization practices, and tailored service provision according to the circumstances of universities
