『Unmanned』 is the seventeenth World Literature Award-winning novel and the first full-length novel by author Chae Ki-sung. The title of the book, ‘Unmanned’, means ‘unmanned’ that excludes people in both the production process and mechanical work of the industry. If an era where everything is perfect without humans comes, the heavy question is, where should we find the reason for human existence? The novel features humanoid robots that replace human labor to highlight human beings who are alienated from labor, and depicts the world landscape that technological development will bring and the relationship between robots and humans. Unmand has a virtue of being wary of the huge robot industry and of the government's incompetence, but at the same time, it is also a work with shortcomings such as lack of probability and limitations of imagination. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy as a warning message for future society.
