The purpose of this study was to provide primary data for developing a program to improve patient safety management activity. The importance of patient safety management education and activity for medical personnel and prospective medical personnel is emphasized in the medical field. Reflecting these changes, this study attempted to examine the attitude of patient safety, confidence in safety nursing, and patient safety management activity, identifying the correlation between the attitude of patient safety, confidence in safety nursing, and patient safety management activity. Also, it attempted to identify factors affecting patient safety management activity in nursing students. The study subjects were 221 in 3rd, and 4th grade enrolled in two nursing colleges located in G-do and had clinical practice experience. Data were collected from November 25 to December 13, 2019. A total of 235 were collected, but 221 were used for final analysis, excluding the data that gave insincere answers. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS Win 28.0 statistical program with frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, Pearson s correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. The reliability of the tool was analyzed using Cronbach s α. As a result of the study, the subjects attitude of patient safety scored an average of 3.84 out of 5, confidence in safety nursing scored an average of 4.36 out of 5, and patient safety management activity scored an average of 4.28 out of 5. As a result of analyzing the difference of attitude of patient safety, confidence in safety nursing, and patient safety management activity according to the general characteristics of the subjects, there was a significant difference in the attitude of patient safety according to the major satisfaction(t=5.27, p<.001) and clinical practice satisfaction(t=2.49, p=.013). There was a significant difference in confidence in safety nursing according to gender(t=2.49, p=.013), major satisfaction(t=2.49, p=.013), and safety education experience(t=2.39, p=.018). And it was found that there was a significant difference in the practice of patient safety management activity according to gender(t=2.07, p=.039). The attitude of patient safety positively correlated with confidence in safety nursing (r=.556, p<.001) and patient safety management activity(r=.418, p<.001). Confidence in safety nursing positively correlates with patient safety management activity(r=.445, p<.001). As a result of multiple regression analysis to determine the affecting factor of nursing students’ patient safety management activity, the confidence in safety nursing(β=0.29, p<.001) and attitude of patient safety(β=0.25, p<.001) appeared as influencing factors. The explanatory power for patient safety management activity was 23.5%. In conclusion, the higher the attitude of patient safety and the higher the confidence in performing safety nursing, the higher the degree of patient safety management activity. Based on this results, the necessity of developing an integrated and systematic nursing education program that can promote patient safety management activity of nursing students was suggested. That program will improve nursing education for strengthening patient safety management activity and guaranteeing patient safety and rights.
