Among the works of Gus Van Sant, ‘Last Moment trilogy - Gerry, Elephant and Last Days’, which have excellent artistic values, were selected as the subjects of the analysis and ‘Warholism’ revealed in those works was analyzed. For this analysis, the study was conducted through three kinds of approaches; ‘death’, ‘daily image’ and ‘frame repetition’ (subject, material and mode of expression). Through this study, following points could be found; First, both Andy Warhol and Gus Van Sant address the subject ‘death’ commonly. Andy Warhol generalizes ‘death’ through ‘repeated and reproduced’ images in his work of art that gave a big impact to his film work and requests his audiences to make philosophical thoughts through observation. Gus Van Sant shows his philosophical approach toward ‘death’ through silently watching and following until arriving at the ‘time of death’. A delicate difference is found in these approaches. Andy Warhol simply ‘repeats and reproduces’ flat images and Gus Van Sant ‘continues and displays’ the process until reaching the ‘time of death’. Second, most of the images appearing in the works of Andy Warhol and Gus Van Sant are brought from ‘daily materials’. Andy Warhol brought the images of empty and boring daily life that does not contain any narrative to his films. Such images clearly and superficially reveal the physical time existing in films, and simultaneously make people concentrate on the visual elements of the image surface than the meanings contained in those images. In other words, it comes to a state where everything except image and time is eliminated. Gus Van Sant slowly approaches to the ‘subject’ of his work through ceaseless tracking ‘daily images’, and transfers this entire time of such process to audience. Third, Andy Warhol and Gus Van Sant use ‘repetition’ for their main rhetoric of their works. Even in the format to express ‘death’ and ‘daily images’ aforementioned, the rhetoric of ‘repetition’ is an element that cannot be excluded. Andy Warhol empties out the elements that an image can contain by itself through reproduction process originated from repetition. Gus Van Sant preserves time physically through ‘continuity’ and executes the construction of a subject within the category of narrative through the images that make feel empty and the display of those images. Such execution compresses the meanings deeply into the images but he makes expressions not through direct expression but through following the symptoms of the subject.
