The purpose of this study is to introduce the concept of holistic geography and find strategies to utilize the holistic geography approach, adopting macro-morphology as an example. Holistic geography encompasses all parts of the earth, or the main study subject of geography. It deepens understanding and expands the scope by integrating elements across various topics. This study analyzes the way macro-morphology is dealt with in geography textbooks according to the 2015 revised geography curriculum, and presents the case of the Great East Japan Earthquake from the perspective of holistic geography so that it can be used for learning the impact of macro-morphology on human life, which is emphasized in the 2022 revised Global Citizen and Geography curriculum. This example effectively shows that even if the same natural disaster occurs, its impact can vary from region to region, depending on physical and human geographic conditions, allowing students to recognize the usefulness of holistic geography. This study is meaningful in that it offers practical strategies from a holistic geography perspective, and can provide insight into writing textbooks and developing teaching and learning tactics according to the 2022 revised curriculum.
