Educational level is considered to be an important way to improve residents’ perception of happiness. This paper uses the data of the China General Social Survey in 2013 and 2015 (CGSS2013, CGSS2015) and uses an ordered Probit regression model to empirically test the impact of education level on residents’ happiness. The results showed that the education level during the sample period had a significant positive effect on residents’ well-being, indicating that the residents’ well-being also increased with the increase of the education level at this stage, and further research found that there was a significant relationship between the education level and the residents’ well-being. Inverted U-shaped characteristics, the inflection point is at the undergraduate level, which indicates that groups with higher education levels are more likely to have an anxious state of mind, and thus are more likely to express unhappiness. In the heterogeneity test, it is found that the unmarried group pays more attention to their own education level than the married group. This is because the unmarried group is not tied by family trivial matters and pays more attention to their own development. Therefore, as the education level increases, the happiness of the unmarried group residents increases with the of increase. Men with higher education are more likely to be anxious and less happy than women. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the popularization of college education, to promote the overall happiness of the whole people, to attach importance to the values and ideological education of highly educated people, and to guide them to sort out and establish a correct view of happiness.
