The purpose of this study is to examine the aesthetic and mental characteristics of Choi Seungja’s poems and prose writings. In doing so, the mutual correspondence of two genres will be at the center of discussion. Although there has been active research on Choi Seungja, her prose is not well known. She is a great poet and, at the same time, a great prose writer. Not only does her prose in itself have a high literary value, but it also helps us better understand her poems. Choi Seungja sometimes expresses her worldview, her view about poetry, and poetics through her prose. It, thus, can help us profoundly identify her literary world through its interaction with an analysis of inherent meanings in her poetry works. For this purpose, this study, first of all, started with reading her prose books carefully again, and, by reading her poems in detail, tried to grasp the aesthetic and mental characteristics of her entire work world. Through this, we could understand the inner aspects of fears as a basis of Choi Seungja’s literary texts and existential texts, and we could examine the confrontation of fear and romantic longings, the two points where her poetry writing originates. Also, we looked into the bright lyrics and dark lyrics in Choi Seungja’s literature, and as we had previously realized, it was found that they reach higher achievement while endlessly meeting and breaking up with each other as aesthetic embodiment of their unique mental attitudes.
