Oliver Haring’s artwork, which aims to showcase participants’ autonomy to the fullest extent, analyzes its characteristics and discusses the ripple effects based on four types of classification according to participants’ autonomy in this study. Examples of artworks are classified into four types: controlled participation roles, autonomic participation roles, limited platforms, and open platforms based on the autonomy of participation. As an example of a limited participation role, the effectiveness of Santiago Sierra’s work in delivering messages and its social impact and control were identified. The participatory work by Carsten Höller’s installation explores the distinction between free participation within a structured framework and the work of Sierra. In Kalleinen’s “Complaint Choir,” which represents the maximum freedom of participation within the platform, the functional elements of social dissatisfaction and various perspectives are identified through the use of an easily accessible chorus for participants. Oliver Herring’s work < TASK > is analyzed as a benchmark for maximizing autonomy, ensuring the highest degree of participant autonomy in the details. Participating art works that guaranteed participant autonomy as much as possible were not limited to one-time performances, but were confirmed to be persistent by various places and personnel. it was confirmed that the open platform, which takes place through several stages, derives maximum satisfaction of participants over time and is reborn as a performance with social ripple effects. The guarantee of autonomy showed the effect of expanding the scope of fixed thinking due to the diversity of thinking and the existing order, indicating that both the role of personal self-reflection and the function of social interaction can be performed. Participatory art within this open-platform is yielding improvements in art perception. It is being utilized as a method for enhancing the quality of education through the incorporation of art into an educational curriculum. This paper seeks to provide an alternative perspective by attempting to describe participatory art through the autonomy of participants rather than a focus on artist-centered analysis, anticipating that it could serve as an alternative approach.
