Wang Bo expressed his misery of unrecognized talents and so on in the epitaph, breaking through the original form of writing of the epitaph. He expanded the expressive field of the epitaph at the composition level, theoretically clarifing that the epitaph can not only “honor virtue and chronicle meritorious deeds”, but also “appreciate the present and cherish the past”, and express the author's sentiment. Wang Bo's theory and practice of epitaph writing were influenced by both author in previous generation such as Cai Yong and Yu Xin, and literary theories of the Six Dynasties. Wang Bo's personalized epitaph writing, which transformed the epitaph from a practical literary style to a carrier of giving emotional experience verbal form, initiated the herald of reformation of epitaph in the Tang Dynasty, having great significance in history of literature of epitaph.
