Thisresearch can be an opportunity of new communication with consumers byexamining the meaning of contemporary jewelry and suggesting examples ofextension of wearing area and its form, and the harmony of fabric and metal.Jewelry as the second skin that reveals personality and existence involveextension of wearing areas and rearrangement of various material throughcombination of different material. To contemporaryjewelry designers, jewelry is more than decoration tools. They are viewed asformative art. There is a movement that upgrades jewelry into formative artthrough diversification of material and artistic tendency. Consumers tend toparticipate in their own designs that show their personality and individuality.While using same material and items, they want to have their own stories inthe jewelry. As a part of production, they design items that enable consumersto separate, to exchange and to modify so that they can give consumers funoptical effects and joy of participation. Men's jewelry is boutonnière style, andfor children's jewelry, through new forms, they enhance meaning of wearingand esthetic value rather than simple material value, and they also extend thedesign territory to express bond between children and their parents. Themultilateral research and try on expansion of material, motive, skills andwearing methods are made for jewelry as the second skin to embrace popularityand artistic value. Using fabric and pure silver as the main material, weproduced frame by plate work and used prints of fabric patterns for decorativeparts, and added agate to maximize the beauty of jewelry. Targeting women in their 20s, who are main consumers, besides jewelry' decorative aspects andesthetic effects, through extension of wearing areas, we provide academic basicresources about jewelry of the second skin and design field of contemporaryjewelry, and ultimately enlarge the market of contemporary jewelry.Specific purposes of this research are as follows.First, we will understand the theoretical background of wearing jewelry asthe second skin, extend wearing area of jewelry, and rearrange material throughcombination of different material.Second, by providing examples of works that try harmony of fabric andmetal, and extend wearing areas, we will find opportunity of newcommunication with consumers.Third, we will analyze outlook of jewelry that use the second skin, whichhelps extend wearing areas of jewelry, and research comprehensiveformativeness in vision and in tactile by combination of fabric and gem stones.
