ATAD3A(ATPase family AAA domain-containing protein 3) is mitochondrial inner membrane protein. It is previously studied that ATAD3A concerns mitochondrial dynamics, cholesterol metabolism, cell growth, mitophagy, prostate cancer. But role of ATAD3A in skeletal development is poorly understood. Limbs are developed through endochondral ossification, which includes primary ossification center and secondary ossification center formation. Here, we generate limb-specific ATAD3A overexpression mice using Prx1-cre. We found out that there was no difference between control mice and ATAD3A-ciTg mice until neonatal stage. But developmental retardation was detected at postnatal stage in ATAD3A-ciTg mice. It shows not only appendicular skeleton dwarfism, but also secondary ossification center formation delays due to cartilage canal absence. It is assumed that ATAD3A is associated with secondary ossification center formation.
