Organic Transformations of N-O Substrates. Organic reactions catalyzed by transition metals are one of the most influential and direct methods for synthesizing organic molecules. With the development of organometallic chemistry, substantial progress has been attained in the transition metal-catalyzed transformations. In the course of my Master's research, I have developed organic transformations, employing Ag- and Ni- catalysts i) silver-catalyzed [3,3]-rearrangement of N- oxyindoles; ii) nickel-catalyzed double deoxygenative C-N coupling of N-O substrates for amines synthesis. Part I. Silver-Catalyzed [3,3]-Rearrangements of N-Oxyindoles Rearrangement reactions of derivatives containing N-O bonds have been investigated and employed for the syntheses of highly decorated organic molecules via effective relocation of the N and O atoms. The concerted Ag-catalyzed rearrangement of N- indolyl carbonates and esters that affords 3-oxyindole derivatives with high functional group compatibility is presented. In addition, this concerted [3,3]-rearrangement approach could be expanded to the synthesis of phosphonate and sulfonamide derivatives even without using an Ag catalyst. Control experiments suggest that a radical pathway is not involved throughout the rearrangement process. Part II. Nickel-Catalyzed Double Deoxygenative C-N Coupling of N-O Substrates A double deoxygenative C-N coupling protocol has been developed by employing N- O substrates, capitalizing on an in-situ combination of NiCl2 catalyst and CataCXium® A as a ligand. The C-N bond formation under mild reaction conditions results in the production of a diverse array of alkylated secondary or tertiary amines. The efficacy of this methodology, in addition to established reductive amination techniques, extends to the synthesis of heterocyclic and fluoroalkyl-substituted anilines.
