In recent years, influencer marketing has gained considerable attention due to the advent of social media marketing. The number of social media influencers (SMIs) who share personal information about themselves is on the rise; however, very little is known about the overall impact of SMIs' disclosure of personal information on people's attitudes and behavior over a short period of time. After exploring parasocial interaction as an underlying mechanism, this study aimed to answer 1) Does parasocial interaction mediate the relationship between SMIs' self-disclosure and viewers' purchase intentions over a short period of time? 2) What is the impact of manipulating self-disclosure across multiple dimensions on parasocial interaction? Using a three-step methodology, this study demonstrated that parasocial interaction fully mediates the relationship between self-disclosure and purchase intention. In addition, research has shown that the most effective way to connect with viewers is to reveal more about yourself on different topics.
